My Writing Process for Poetry.
When I write poetry, it isn’t something that I
can usually "turn on" by simply commanding myself to. Poetry isn’t like most other
forms writing. Most writing finds its beauty in the grammatical structure, and
story. While it is true that poetry can have story, and it has its own form of
grammar. Poetry cares more about how the story makes you feel and how it flows, than it cares about classic grammatical rules. It’s not as easy to “turn on”
the mind set for writing poetry. Poetry is its own form of art where you need to be able to feel the feeling in order to portray it in your writing. For me, the poems usually come by finding
someplace quiet and peaceful. I turn off my mind and they come to me like a
song. I let myself latch on to a thought and find words to let it flow and tell
the story. Sometimes, poems do come to
me in the hustle of normal life, but that is not common, I can’t usually control
where or when a poem will come to me. Clearing my mind in a quiet place is the
only way to almost control when I will be able to write poetry.
